W/S Plant Mechanic I, II, or III (W/S Facilities Maintenance Division)
W/S Plant Mechanic I
Assists in the overhaul of water and/or wastewater treatment machinery and equipment, including. Chlorinators, chemical feeders, conveyors, etc.; Maintains pump and lift stations, reads meters, lubricates and performs preventive maintenance; Rebuilds pumps and piping systems, installs new equipment; Replaces control valves; Cleans, services and assists in the overhauls of pumps, motors and related equipment; Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
W/S Plant Mechanic II
Essential Tasks - All the above plus:
Performs regular preventive maintenance inspections such as checking and lubricating bearings and gear boxes, checking and replacing filters, checking packing, temperatures, etc. Troubleshoots and repairs pumping and treatment equipment; Dismantles and overhauls various plant equipment including gauges, grit collectors, conveyors, mechanical grinders, pumps, engines and blowers, gas and air compressors, ventilation systems, chlorinators, evaporators, and chemical feeders; Assists in preparing, recording and reporting on plant operation, maintenance and repair;
W/S Plant Mechanic III
Essential Tasks – All the above plus:
Diagnoses, plans and directs utility maintenance work. Oversees the dismantling and overhauls various plant equipment including gauges, grit collectors, conveyors, mechanical grinders, pumps, engines and blowers, gas and air compressors, ventilation systems, chlorinators, evaporators, and chemical feeders; Cleans, services and assists in the overhauls of pumps, motors and related equipment; Prepares, records, and reports on plant operation, maintenance and repair;
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city departments, employees, and the public.
- Must be able to maintain all information in a confidential manner.
- Must be highly detail oriented and project a professional manner.
- Must have strong background in electronic service and management.
- Must be able to climb lift station ladders.
Annual Salary: from $36,605.92 – 57,008.64
